Privacy Policy — Voice Journal

This policy describes how JRDevDesign (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Voice Journal mobile app on iOS and Android. Voice Journal is a private voice diary with speech-to-text transcription (on-device where available). The app is designed to work without an account and without cloud storage for your journal content.

2. Summary

Your journal is stored on your device. Voice recordings, transcripts, notes, tags, and favorites are stored locally in a SQLite database on your phone or tablet. We do not operate servers that receive your journal content. Speech recognition may use Apple or Google speech services when on-device recognition is not available (see section 4).

• No account required
• No ads and no tracking; for purchases, RevenueCat processes purchase data (section 8)
• No cloud sync of journal entries
• Export and backup under your control (JSON)

3. Data stored on your device

The app stores the following locally, for as long as you keep it installed or until you delete entries or uninstall the app:

• Audio recordings attached to journal entries
• Transcripts and optional notes
• Tags, favorites, and entry metadata (dates, titles)
• App preferences (for example language or consent flags)

We do not receive copies of this content simply because you use the app.

4. Speech recognition and microphone

To record and transcribe your voice, the app requests access to the microphone and, where supported by the operating system, speech recognition. When on-device recognition is available (for example with an installed offline language pack), audio is processed offline on your device. If it is not available, audio may be sent to the speech recognition service of your operating system (Apple Speech on iOS, Google speech services on Android) to create the transcript; this requires an internet connection and is subject to Apple's or Google's privacy policies. We do not receive this audio or the transcript.

You can revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Without microphone access, core recording features will not work.

5. Optional feedback and diagnostic email

If you choose Send feedback or Send diagnostic report in Settings, the app opens your email client with a pre-filled message to johannes@jrdevdesign.com. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.

A diagnostic report may include:

• App version and build information
• Device model and OS version
• Aggregated local statistics (for example entry counts)
• Technical recording diagnostics (metadata only, not audio or transcript text)

It does not include your journal text or audio unless you add that yourself in the email body.

6. App updates (Expo Updates)

The app may check for application updates through Expo Updates to deliver bug fixes and improvements. That process checks for new app bundles only and does not transmit your journal content.

7. App Store review prompt

After sustained local use, the app may show the system review dialog provided by Apple or Google. Whether you rate the app is entirely optional. We do not receive rating data directly.

8. In-app purchases (RevenueCat)

When you buy Voice Journal Pro, start a free trial or restore purchases, the app uses the RevenueCat service of RevenueCat, Inc., 1032 E Brandon Blvd #3003, Brandon, FL 33511, USA, to verify purchases and unlock Pro. RevenueCat processes the data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR).

Data processed: a randomly generated, pseudonymous app user ID (no name, no email address), the store’s purchase and subscription data (product, price and currency, purchase, renewal and expiry dates, trial and subscription status, transaction identifiers and receipts), technical information (platform, operating system, app and SDK version, store country, language) and the IP address that is technically transmitted with every connection. Neither RevenueCat nor we receive payment details; payment is handled solely by Apple or Google. Your journal content is not sent to RevenueCat.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the Pro contract: verifying, unlocking and restoring purchases). Where we evaluate purchase data in aggregated form in the RevenueCat dashboard (for example numbers of purchases, renewals and cancellations) and use it to prevent abuse, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is planning the app economically and preventing abuse. You can object to this processing under Art. 21 GDPR.

RevenueCat processes the data in the USA. RevenueCat is not certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The transfer is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR), which are part of the data processing agreement with RevenueCat; you can request a copy. RevenueCat uses further sub-processors, mostly in the USA.

The data is stored as long as it is needed to unlock and restore your purchases and beyond that only where legal obligations require it. More information: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

9. Export, backup, and deletion

You can export your data as JSON from the app. Exports are created on your device and shared only if you choose to save or send them. You can delete individual entries or uninstall the app to remove local data from your device.

Where we process personal data (for example from a support email you send), you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object under the GDPR. You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

10. Children's privacy

Voice Journal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has contacted us with personal data, please email us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. The current version is always available at this URL.
