Privacy Policy — PurePower

Last updated: 2 September 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how PurePower (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) processes information when you use the PurePower mobile application on Android and iOS.

PurePower is a cycling training recorder that connects to Bluetooth power meters and heart-rate monitors and can optionally record GPS track data. Ride data is stored locally on your device. PurePower does not require an account and does not operate a cloud sync service for your rides.

Where the GDPR applies, this is the controller under Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR.

2. Data we process

Depending on how you use the App, we may process:

2.1 Athlete and settings data (on device)

  • Functional Threshold Power (FTP), max heart rate, body weight
  • Power and heart-rate zone settings
  • Language, unit system, appearance, dashboard layout, GPS and recording preferences
  • Identifiers and names of paired Bluetooth devices stored for reconnection

2.2 Ride and sensor data (on device)

  • Power, cadence, left/right balance, heart rate samples
  • Timestamps, lap markers, calculated metrics (e.g. NP, IF, TSS, FTP estimate)
  • Optional GPS points (location, speed, altitude/elevation) when GPS tracking is enabled
  • Optional barometric pressure data for elevation/grade when available
  • Ride names and notes you enter

2.3 Feedback you choose to send

If you use in-app feedback, you may provide a message, optional reply email, and category. The App can attach app diagnostics (device/app technical information). Ride files and GPS tracks are not attached automatically.

2.4 App updates

The App may check for and download updates via Expo Application Services (EAS Updates). This may involve technical identifiers and network requests to Expo's update infrastructure. This does not transmit your ride journal content to us.

2.5 Permissions and OS data

The operating system may expose Bluetooth, location, notification, and foreground-service permission status. Permission dialogs and system logs are controlled by your device OS.

3. Purposes and legal bases (GDPR / EU)

Where the GDPR applies, processing is based on:

  • Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR – performance of the contract / provision of the App features you request
  • Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR – consent where required (e.g. optional GPS tracking; optional feedback including reply email)
  • Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the App

Health-related fitness metrics (power, heart rate) are processed locally to provide the training features you request. We do not sell personal data.

4. Storage location and retention

  • Ride, sensor, GPS, and settings data are stored locally on your device.
  • Data remains until you delete individual rides, clear app data, or uninstall the App.
  • Feedback content you send via your email or share client is retained according to that client's policies.

5. Sharing and processors

We do not sell your data. Limited sharing may occur when:

  • You export or share FIT/GPX files, backups, or feedback through your device
  • Expo (EAS Updates) delivers app updates
  • Google Play / Apple App Store process installation and store account data under their own policies
  • Operating system / device vendors process Bluetooth, location, and permission flows
  • Legal obligation requires disclosure

6. International transfers

If you use EAS Updates or send feedback by email, data may be processed on servers outside your country, including outside the EU/EEA. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards offered by the relevant provider or your explicit action.

7. Your rights (EU/EEA and similar jurisdictions)

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and to withdraw consent at any time.

Because most PurePower data stays on your device, you can typically exercise control by editing settings, deleting rides, revoking OS permissions, or uninstalling the App. For requests related to feedback emails or operator records, contact johannes@jrdevdesign.com.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For the provider in Germany that is typically the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI), P.O. Box 3163, 65021 Wiesbaden, Germany.

8. Analytics, ads, and crash reporting

The App does not include advertising SDKs and does not operate a first-party analytics or crash product that sends your ride content to us. If we add such tools later, we will update this policy and the Play Console / App Store data safety forms.

9. Children

PurePower is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not use the App if you are below that age.

10. Security

We design the App to keep ride data on-device by default. No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure. Protect your device with OS lock/screen security and be careful when exporting or sharing files.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date will change accordingly. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
